Subspecies in India

Photo Gallery and Species Biology
Type Locality: Manila Bay (Philippines)
Common, known to be distributed throughout Indian coasts (Bay of Bengal, Arabian and Indian oceans) in India (Abreu-Grobois and Plotkin, 2008).
Conservation Status:

The species requires range of geographically separated localities and multiple habitats for its life cycle, such as coastal sandy beaches, oceanic zones and neritic water (Abreu-Grobois and Plotkin, 2008). Degradation and destruction of nesting sites, tourism and fish catching related activities in coasts, change in thermal profile of beaches, increasing light pollution, sewage effluents and global warming are potential threats for the survival of the species (Abreu-Grobois and Plotkin, 2008).
